The Language of Clothes: Visual Codes and Messages Mary Alexander Saturday 24 March 2018

Clothing and fashion have been used to denote wealth and status or to differentiate between social groups.  There will be a wide selection of historical paintings, male and female clothing, photographs and advertisements. Extracts from letters, journals and literature will be used throughout.  Full details of times and place can be found below.

Tickets will be on Sale in January at a Price of £33 with buffet lunch included.

​Mary Alexander ​is a graduate in History and History of Art, who has 30 years experience as a lecturer and has a particular interest in the history of clothing.  She has given public lectures to museums and was a tutor for the Open University.  She is now a freelance lecturer to various arts, heritage and antiquarian societies.

The study day offers 3 interactive lectures illustrated with art and photographs on the “visual codes and messages of fashion”, both historical and contemporary. A buffet lunch with wine / soft drink is included.
