The Language of Clothes: Visual Codes and Messages Mary Alexander Saturday 24 March 2018

Clothing and fashion have been used to denote wealth and status or to differentiate between social groups.  There will be a wide selection of historical paintings, male and female clothing, photographs and advertisements. Extracts from letters, journals and literature will be used throughout.

​Mary Alexander ​is a graduate in History and History of Art, who has 30 years experience as a lecturer and has a particular interest in the history of clothing.  She has given public lectures to museums and was a tutor for the Open University.  She is now a freelance lecturer to various arts, heritage and antiquarian societies.
