We started the 2026/2027 season with the Annual General Meeting. It was rather a quick meeting and all the proposals were carried unanimously. Members who contribute so much to the smooth running and success of our Society were thanked by our President, Diana Bowes and an enthusiastic audience supported her kind words.

The meeting was followed by the first lecture of our 2026/27 season given by Aaron Hunter entitled The Science of Art at The National Gallery. I cannot comment on the lecture in case I influence members in their decision when sending in their votes and comments!!! Have you voted?

The final event of the 2025/26 season was a walk around Carshalton Village.
On what must have been one of the cooler days of the summer we had a very informative visit to All Saints Church which overlooks the Lower Pond and The Grove. We then progressed to Carshalton House - now Part of St Philomena’s Secondary School for Girls where we visited a very interesting Painted Room before making our way to The Water Tower. Here we saw the beautifully tiled bathing area and the site of the former Orangery.
We then strolled along Jubilee Walk alongside The Wandle , passed what at one point was the largest Plane tree in the country ( and which is awaiting a further measurement soon to see whether or not it has retained its position) to Honeywood Lodge where we sat by The Upper Pond and enjoyed a Cream Tea.
Thanks so much to Robina Holmes for arranging the expedition. It was a very pleasant afternoon.
